Dr. B.Shantharam Baliga
Dr. B.Shantharam Baliga is currently Professor and HOD of Pediatrics department at Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, and Manipal University.
Presently he is the Executive Committee member of Critical Care Chapter of IAP-Karnataka and also is Convener HOD cell IAP Karnataka state branch, he also heads the South Zone as Coordinator HOD cell, central IAP. He is also Coordinator IYFC of IAP Karnataka and presently member of various organization including NNF Karnataka, IAP , DK branch, Karnataka, Central IAP, Member of technical resource group, National Institute of Public Cooperation for child development, Ministry of women and child development, Government of India , Member of Infant death review committee of Dakshina Kannada . He is also Governing Board Member, Karnataka Health Systems Resource Centre, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Karnataka and Member Malaria control Action committee Dakshina kannada, President NNF Karnataka chapter 2014-2016.
He had being recognized for this contribution and service, by various institutions including, in 2006 as Man of the year for social service by Sevanjali trust Mangalore. In 2008 felicitated at Karnataka Neocon for contribution to neonatal survival. In 2014 he was awarded Rajyothsava district Award for social service. He also has various academic achievements to mention a few, he was awarded 4 Gold medals from University of Mysore in 1980, 2 prizes from University of Mysore in 1980. He has also been research fellow at ICMR and principal investigator Phase III drug trials in Malaria and also Principal investigator for 2 ICMR funded projects
He pioneered neonatal unit and pediatric intensive care units in public sector hospital and in private hospital since 1987 resulting in regionalization of child care in the district. Presently he also part of Project “The brain child” – Regional Advanced Pediatric Care Center is a 12 crore project which provides free high end are to the needy poor. The slogan “reach the un reached” is a reality in the coastal region of Karnataka He was also invited as expert for policy meeting by Government of Karnataka and Government of India to reduce neonatal mortality with reference to Facility creation. He is Responsible for PPP model to set up Special care Neonatal units in the district hospitals in the state (23 districts). For the first time in country Dr Baliga had developed an app which is being implemented to developed Malaria Control application for Mangaluru City Corporation.
Dr Baliga has authored chapters in text book and also been editor for a Book. He has 8 international publications to his credit and has indexed up to 12 publications. He has made presentations at 3 international conference and has delivered more than 300 lectures to academic bodies and conferences, CME. He has also submitted papers at 65 National and State Conferences.
